Crenshaw/LAX Metro ExtensionCrenshaw/LA, CAThe Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project extends light rail transit service from the existing Metro E Line (Expo) at Crenshaw and Exposition Boulevards in Los Angeles, and merges with Metro C Line (Green) at the Aviation/LAX Station on Aviation Boulevard and Interstate 105 in the City of El Segundo over a length of 8.5 miles serving the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood and El Segundo.Aldea performed the Support of Excavation (SOE) design for multiple underground subway stations including design of temporary road decks to support automobile traffic along Crenshaw Boulevard while construction activies were continuing below.
Westside Purple Line Extension - Phase 2Irvine, CAThis Los Angeles Metro project consists of twin bore tunnels lined with precast concrete segmental lining. A portion of the alignment crosses a zone affected by Santa Monica and Newport Inglewood Faults, requiring a special tunnel lining section to accommodate high magnitude earthquakes. Aldea designed the special segmental lining and oversaw the testing program to evaulate the performance of the special lining under earthquake loads.
California High Speed Rail (San Fransisco / San Jose / Merced)Oakland, CAFacilitated Risk Assessment workshops for initial risk identification and assessment of major permit and stakeholder risks associated with the northern line section of the CA High Speed Rail. Also responsible for ongoing risk management and maintenance of risk register throughout planning and preliminary design stages.
Westside Purple Line Extension - Phase 3Rancho Cucamonga, CAAldea performed peer review and preparation of technical approach for tending this 2.6 mile long, 18-foot diameter EPMB tunnels excavated in a seismic area within the Santa Monica Fault. Carried out alternative technical design of a special segmental tunnel lining in subsitution of the steel section envisioned by MTA.
WMATA Gallery Place Station - Tunnel Passageway Washington, DCFeasibility of constructing a passageway at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Station. The passageway would allow passengers to bypass the crowded tunnel junction and provide additional area to alleviate platform crowding and facilitate efficient movement through thestation. The passageway would require construction under historic buildings along G Street and 7th Street NW and cutting new openings in the existing station concrete vault walls. Aldea prepared a Technical Memorandum to provide recommendations for the project configuration and Conceptual Design for the Owner.
Atlanta Plane Train Tunnel - West ExtensionAtlanta , GAPlane Train Tunnel West Extension extends the existing system beyond the baggage claim station to create a turn-back tunnel, providing the space needed to allow the people movers more time to complete the end-of-line turnaround. The project consists of a 30-foot diameter shaft and 750 feet of subway tunnel in shallow mixed-face ground conditions under critical infrastructure. Aldea was retained as the Owners Engineer for underground design for this Progressive Design Build (PDB) project. Responsible for detailed design for Bid package, PDB team design submittal reviews, and construction inspection.
Eastside Access - Manhattan Tunnel ExcavationLong Island City, NYEast Side Access provides new Long Island Rail Road service to the east side of Manhattan, supplementing existing service to Penn Station on Manhattan’s west side and Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn. The East Side Access megaproject is one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects in the United States. The project encompasses work in multiple locations in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx and includes more than 8 miles of tunneling.
East Side Access ProjectNew York, NYThe MTA's East Side Access Project is a multi-billion dollar infrastructure project designed to bring Long Island Railroad to Grand Central Station in Manhatten. The East Side Access megaproject encompasses the work in multiple locations in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx and includes more than 8 miles of tunneling. Aldea roles were Detailed Design, Construction Engineering, Concrete Shop Drawings, as-built survey data analysis.
Highway 401/409 Tunnel CrossingToronto, ONProject consists of the construction of two new track rail tunnel approximately 176 meters in length to increase the capacity along the GO Transit commuter rail service. The new tunnels were mined under the 401/409 Highway using SEM/NATM. Challenges include low overburden, ground improvement measures, and utilities within the maximum settlement and distortion limits. Aldea performed risk management and analysis services.
Ottowa Light Rail Transit (OLRT) - Rideau Street Sinkhole Forensic AssessmentOttawa, ONThe Ottawa Light Rail Transit (OLRT) Project included the construction of a 2.5 km long tunnel within the downtown area. The 9m x 6.5m SEM/NATM tunnel was advancing near Rideau Street and Sussex Street when a significant sinkhole developed above the tunnel. Aldea provided forensic evaluation to support the investigation of the sinkhole development.
Union Station Rail Corridor Emergent Works ContractToronto, ONThe project was part of the Metrolinx USRC Infrastructure Emergent Work - Simcoe Street Station Feasibility Study associated with Metrolinx’s effort to increase the operating and storage capacity at Union Station which comprised an underground station constructed using SEM/NATM placed in the vicinity of the Simcoe Street Bridge. Aldea performed the underground design and construction approach assessment associated with the underground station and running tunnels.
Eglington Crosstown West ExtensionToronto, ONThe extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will run 9.2 kilometres from the future Mount Dennis LRT station to Renforth Drive. Approximately 6 kilometres of tunnelling will be required for the project. Aldea is part of a Design Build Team providing tunnel design services.
Montreal Airport Station Cavern ProjectMontreal, QBADM Station (or Airport Station) constructed using SEM/NATM beneath the existing Montreal-Trudeau Airport that will incorporate a new light rail transit network, the REM (Réseau Électrique Métropolitain). The REM tunnels will terminate at the Airport Station. Aldea serves as the lead underground Design Engineer, responsible for designing all the underground componenets of the project including the GBR and CIAR.
